Daniel Kassouf Player-of-the-Week
From the League press release: Daniel Kassouf (Belmont Abbey) of the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week for the week of June 15 to June 21. Kassouf finished the week on a six-game hitting streak and set a League record for homering in three straight games from June 17 to June 19. He also drove in three runs in each of those games and led the League with 10 RBI last week. The slugger doubled in each of his final two games of the week and scored a run in each of the final five. He also walked four times, and posted an OPS of 1.160.
“OPS” is a statistic that adds a player’s on-base percentage (how frequently the player gets on base by any means: hits, walks, hit by pitch) and his slugging percentage (a measure of the player’s power).
Thunderbolts win 4-1
BOXSCORE | June 17 . The Thunderbolts defeated the College Park Bombers tonight, 4-1, to end their seven game losing streak. Starter Gray Carden (Wingate) allowed only one run in seven innings for the win. Brennan Wojdyla (Marist) and Mike Bzozowski (Catholic) combined for 2 innings of scoreless ball in relief, Bzozowski earning the save. The TBolts knocked Bombers' starter Ignacio Rodriguez (Swarthmore) out of the game in the third inning, and Rodriguez was handed the loss. Daniel Kassouf (Belmont Abbey) was the star of the night offensively for the TBolts, going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Mark Hill (George Mason) walked three times, and Greg Anderson (Mesa State) of the Bombers went 2-2. -- Pete Volk.

June 12, 2009 | The Thunderbolts haven't played for so long that they decided to play extra baseball tonight, losing to Youse's Orioles 7-5 in 11 innings. Falling behind 3-0, the Thunderbolts scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Kyle Maldonado (UNO) was hit by a pitch and Curtis Wilson (NW Shoals CC) belted the Thunderbolts first home run of the season to left center. They went ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth when Casey Allison (Wingate) doubled home Matt Greene (Hagerstown CC) and Jacob Darr (Mt. St. Mary's). The Orioles scored two in the top of the ninth to regain the lead at 5-4. In the bottom of the ninth the Thunderbolts tied the game: Jacob Darr (Mt. St. Mary's) singled home Greene who had walked and advanced to second on a single by Matt Hillsinger (Radford). The Orioles scored two runs off Mike Bzozowski (Catholic), in the 11th to give him the loss.

June 7, 2009 | The Thunderbolts opened their 10th season last night with a 10-2 win over the Alexandria Aces. Righthander Spencer Patton (Towson) allowed no runs over five innings and struck out 4 hitters to get the win. Leftfielder Matt Hillsinger (Radford) and third baseman Devin Rivers (NW Shoals CC) each had three hits, including a triple by Hillsinger to lead off the game for the Thunderbolts. Mark Hill (George Mason), Casey Allison (Wingate) and Kyle Maldonado (UNO) each had two hits, with Maldonado driving in three runs. Matt Greene (Hagerstown CC) drove in two runs.

THUNDERBOLTS IN THE NEWS
June 6, 2009 . Right hander Matty Ott (LSU), top left, has picked up a number of honors recently. He was named the 2009 SEC Co-Freshman of the Year, was named to the Collegiate Basebal magazine First-Team Freshman All-America squad, was named by Louisville Slugger to their All-America Third-Team and is one of five finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award. The closer has a 3-2 record and a 2.22 ERA with four walks and 62 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.
The Thunderbolts other Matt, infielder Matt Greene (Hagerstown CC), top center, was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-American - 3rd Team. Matt led the Hawks (season record 39-17) with a .401 batting average, 62 RBI, and 16 stolen bases.
Former Thunderbolts (2006-2007) pitcher Jeremiah Meiners (Francis Marion) was selected to the Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Southeast Region Second-Team. He had a 6-2 record with a 4.15 ERA and 52 strikeous in 65 innings pitched.
June 1, 2009 - Outfielder Casey Allison (Wingate) was selected as the Rookie of the Year in the South Atlantic Conference.
First Baseman Daniel Kassouf (Belmont Abbey), center, led all Division II colleges in home runs (29) and slugging percentage (.803). His 29 home run surpassed the school record of 16 held be two players, one of whom, Alex Udwari of Silver Spring, who played for the Thunderbolts in 2005 and 2006. Kassouf's team was defeated by a score of 7-5 in the semi-final round of the Division II college world series by Lynn University in Cary, North Carolina on May 28. Belmont Abbey finished the season with a record
of 40-26.
