After their 9-4 loss to the Baltimore Redbirds on Saturday, the Thunderbolts (3-1) erupted at the plate in an 8-3 win over the Rockville Express (1-3). Huei-Sheng Lin got the win for the T-Bolts in his Cal Ripken League debut, pitching two innings and giving up one earned run. John Farley started off strong for the Express, but gave up five runs in a disastrous third inning and eventually took the loss for Rockville..
The Express got on the board in the first inning with an RBI single from Jarel McDade. Eurick Perez extended the Rockville lead to 3-0 with a two-run single later that inning.
The T-Bolts offensive outburst in the third inning was highlighted by a Jimmy Cain two-run double that gave Silver Spring a 4-3 lead. Cain is off to a hot start with four RBIs in four games played. Nick Atkinson also boosted Silver Spring in the third inning with an RBI double which gave the T-Bolts’ a two-run lead.
The T-Bolts’ pitching staff excelled across the board on the night. The bullpen followed Lin’s start with seven scoreless innings. Silver Spring only gave up five hits after the second inning and threw a total of twelve strikeouts during that span. Jaren Zinn pitched two scoreless innings to continue his early season success. Zinn has been dominant so far this season, with 5 strikeouts and zero earned runs in two appearances.
