T-Bolts Go 1-2 In Past Three Games Against Baltimore Dodgers and FCA Braves

The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts (5-7) won a suspended game Sunday against the Baltimore Dodgers, 7-5, but dropped the regularly scheduled game against the Baltimore team, 5-2. Kieran Garner (1-0, Catonsville CC) pitched two innings for the win on Sunday, Dodgers pitcher Keaton Bradley (0-1, Prince Georges CC) took the loss.

The Thunderbolts struck for two runs in the bottom of the eighth after Garner held the Dodgers scoreless in the top of the inning. Patrick Burke (West Virginia Tech) walked to lead off the Tbolts inning, then Eric Callahan (Millersville University) singled to center and the Dodgers centerfielder, Jake Ruby (Ohio State), misplayed the ball, allowing Burke to score, and Callahan to reach second base.

After Nick Atkinson struck out, but the ball eluded Dodger catcher Nick Graham (Millersville University), and Callahan took third base. Cal Villereal (New Mexico State University), singled sharply to right field, scoring Callahan. The Bolts proceeded to load the bases with a single and hit batsman but could not score any further runs. Garner retired the side in the top of the ninth to secure the Bolts win.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Baltimore Dodgers pitching duo of Jason Reynolds (Lehigh), and Antonio Bianchini (Frederick CC) combined to limit the Bolts to two runs on four hits on route to a 5-2 win. Yash Rane (1-2) went five innings and allowed five runs to take the loss. Bolts’ relief pitchers Austin Weber (Towson) and Garrett Pearson (VCU) did not allow the Dodgers any further runs in the remaining four innings. Zack Buck (Holy Cross) got two of the Bolts four hits; Ace Felder (Grambling State) and Jack Roberts (Elon University) got the other.

The Bolts next game was on the road against the red hot FCA Braves. On a humid, steamy night, the Braves exploded for 16 runs on 16 hits for a 16-9 win. With the score 16-5 in the top of the ninth, the Bolts showed fortitude by batting around and scoring four runs on four hits to bring the score to 16-9. The Bolts left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth when the final batter was retired.
