T-Bolts' Bats Come Alive in 9-7 Victory over Braves

The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts (7-12) snapped a three game losing streak in a 9-7 win over the Herndon Braves (9-9) on Thursday night at Annandale High School. Jaren Zinn got his first win of the season, only giving up two earned runs on the evening. The Harvard product allowed three hits and three walks in six innings pitched. Ryan Remo took the loss for Herndon. Remo gave up four earned runs over 4.2 innings of work.

Hitting was the story of the night for Silver Spring. SS Jack Roberts got the slugging going for the T-Bolts with a solo shot in the third inning which gave the T-Bolts a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, C Turner Davis broke the game open with his first career grand slam. Davis's four-bagger gave the T-Bolts a 5-0 lead. The Savannah State sophomore currently leads the team in home runs on the season with three shots so far this year. Davis followed up his grand slam with a double and a single and finished his night a triple short of hitting for the cycle. DH Corey Rosier put another run on the board with a hard hit RBI single later in the inning.

The Braves were able to fight back from a 6-0 deficit. DH Bryce Leasure got the rally started with a two-run-double in the sixth. Leasure's .367 batting average leads Herndon and ranks as one of the highest in the Cal Ripken League. The Braves continued their comeback with a three-run seventh inning. The inning was highlighted by another RBI from Leasure which made it 8-5, still in favor of the T-Bolts.

Silver Spring got an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning to push their lead to 9-5. C Cal Villareal smacked a long fly ball to right field which allowed the runner on third to tag up and score. The Braves refused to quit, grabbing consecutive RBI doubles to make it a 9-7 game. With a runner on third and the tying run at the plate, T-Bolts pitcher Jack Schroder struck out 2B Cody Cline to end the game.

The T-Bolts look to grab their second win in a row on Friday as they return home to Montgomery Blair Stadium. The game will start at 7pm and can be heard live at tboltsradio.com.
