The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts (7-14) lost to the Rockville Express (9-10) 6-5 on Saturday night at Montgomery College. The T-Bolts were up 5-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but RF Jarel McDade slapped a two-run walk off single to right field to give Rockville the win. Silver Spring relief pitcher Garrett Pearson gave up the winning runs, earning his second loss of the season. Andy Rozylowicz started for the T-Bolts, surrendering three earned runs over seven innings pitched. He ended up with a no-decision. On the other side, Josh Seils picked up his first win for Rockville. His 0.2 innings of scoreless ball gave the Express a chance to win the game in the ninth.
The Express got their offense rolling early, with two quick runs in the first inning. 3B Myles Coston crushed a deep RBI double to left field which gave Rockville their second run. 2B Patrick Burker quickly got a run back for Silver Spring with a RBI groundout in the second making it 2-1. In the fourth, 3B Matt Balance gave the T-Bolts a 3-2 lead with a clutch two run double over the head of the Rockville center fielder. Balance had a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-5, moving his batting average up to .176.
The lead didn't last long as Rockville came back to tie the game at 3. C Evan Blum delivered a RBI single with two outs in the sixth inning. Silver Spring C Zach Buck responded with a huge two run single to give the Bolts a 5-3 lead. Buck has been one of the hottest hitter in the Cal Ripken League and is making his case to be an All-Star. The Express inched closer with a run in the seventh to make it 5-4. The T-Bolts were unable to hang on, losing their second game in a row.
The T-Bolts will look to respond to their heartbreaking loss on Sunday as they take on the Baltimore Dodgers in a doubleheader back home at Montgomery Blair Stadium. First game starts at 4pm, while the second seven inning game will start at 7pm. Catch both games live at tboltsradio.com.
