T-Bolts Top Giants in Rain-Battered Playoff Game to Advance into the Semifinals

The T-Bolts battled the elements as much as they battled the Giants in this matchup, but neither the rain nor the opposing team could stop the T-Bolts as they won the single-game playoff matchup over Gaithersburg by a final score of 7-4 to advance to the Cal Ripken League semifinals.

Kieran Garner got the win in relief for Silver Spring. Garner came on for a single inning of work, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two. The losing pitcher for Gaithersburg was Jaret Bennett, who started the game for the Giants. The Charleston Southern junior surrendered three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over three innings of work.

The scoring got started in the top of the third when Corey Rosier singled to center, scoring Raven Beeman and Hunter Pearre. Four pitches later, Jack Schroeder ripped a double to left field to score Rosier and bring the T-Bolt lead to 3-0.

Both offenses fell silent through the sixth inning, when a power outage and thunderstorm forced an early end to the night. The two teams would pick the game back up the very next day, and a refreshed Giants offense tried to mount a comeback. In the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Brown crushed the first pitch he saw for a two-run homer, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of the T-Bolts.

Josh Simon added an insurance run in the seventh inning by slamming a 1-0 pitch for a solo shot. Later in the inning, Hunter Pearre lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Jack Roberts and increasing the T-Bolt lead to 5-2. In the ninth inning, a Devon Jeffreys single scored two runs and gave the T-Bolts a commanding 7-2 lead.

The Giants vied for a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning, as a Jackson Campbell single followed by a hit-by-pitch forced home a run. Despite this, Austin Weber induced a swinging strike three to send the T-Bolts on to the next round.

The T-Bolts start their best-of-three semifinal playoff series against the Bethesda Big Train on Wednesday at 7pm. The game will be played at Shirley Povich Stadium and will be broadcast live at tboltsradio.com.
