The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts return to Bethesda and Shirley Povich fFeld tonight to take on the current leaders of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, the Bethesda Big Train. Tonight’s game starts at 7 pm; broadcast time on the Tbolts Radio Network is 6:55 pm. Neal Lavon is on the call and Clark Boinis will tweet out the action. The weather forecast looks encouraging for a return to baseball as the Bolts’ last two games in Lorton and Gaithersburg were cancelled due to weather.
The Bolts starting pitcher is Greg Albert (Jr, UMBC). Pitching for the Big Train is Jacob McCarvel (Jr, California Baptist U) who is 0-0. Albert has pitched 5.2 innings in two games as a relief pitcher. He has given up three earned runs, allowed seven hits, struck out three, and walked six. His loss came against the Big Train on June 11 as the Bolts were shut out, 12-0.
McCarvel started two games for the Big Trai this season, pitching seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits, issuing no walks, and striking out eight.
The Big Train is coming off a 7-5 win over the FCA Braves at Shirley Povich on Wednesday night. They lead the T-Bolts by two games but the T-Bolts have two games in hand. This is the third meeting of four between the T-Bolts and Big Train at Shirley Povich Field. The T-Bolts final meeting with the Train at Shirley Povich is slated for Sunday, July 7.
