It’s Mykut and Kail and the Bolts Hope to Sail

The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts return to action after a day off Friday, with a doubleheader against the Alexandria Aces at Frank Mann Field in Alexandria. Game One is scheduled for 4:30 pm with the second game slated to start at 7. Both games are planned for broadcast on the T-Bolts Radio Network with the first game airing at 4:25 pm. Neal Lavon and Nate Kresh are on the call with Clark Boinis handling social media.

The T-Bolts plan to start Alex Mycut (So, Millersville) in Game One and Bradyn Kail (So, Calif U of Penn) in Game Two. Both are righthanders. Mykut, (1-0) is coming off a masterful outing in an 8-1 win over the DC Grays on June 24 when he went five innings, allowed no runs, one hit, walked two, and struck out six. Overall, he has appeared in five games, pitched 11 innings, allowed ten hits, walked five and struck out 17. His overall ERA is 4.09.

Kail has appeared in three games and has a 1-0 record. His win came against the Gaithersburg Giants on June 16 when he went five innings, allowed four earned runs, six hits, walked three, and struck out four. In the season to date, he has pitched 15 innings, allowed seven runs, walked eight, and struck out 14. His ERA stands at 4.20.

The Aces plan to start lefthander Connor Campbell (So, Florence-Darlington Tech) in the first game, and righthander Andre Orselli (So, Ball State) in the second game.

Campbell has appeared in four games, starting two, and has a 1-0 record. His win came against the Bethesda Big Train on June 16 at Shirley Povich Field, a game won by the Aces, 8-4. In that game, he pitched four innings, allowed two earned runs, walked five, struck out three, and allowed three hits. Overall, he’s pitched in 11 innings, allowed four earned runs, walked ten, and struck out 12. His ERA is an impressive 3.27.

Orselli has appeared in four games, started one, and has no record. He pitched 9.2 innings, walked two, struck out ten, allowed four earned runs, and scattered 11 hits. His ERA is 3.72. His longest stint of the season was on June 24 against the Gaithersburg Giants in Alexandria when he went 6.1 innings, allowed two earned runs, six hits, walked none, and struck out four. The Aces lost the game 4-2.

The T-Bolts split a doubleheader with the Aces at Blair, winning the first, 15-9, but dropping the second, 5-2. This is the third doubleheader in eight days for the T-Bolts as rained out games earlier in the season are now being made up.

The Bolts are on the road again on Sunday when they visit the DC Grays at the Nats Baseball Academy for a 1 pm game. The Bolts will start their newest pitcher, Zeke Gognola (So, Mo Coll, Germantown). Gongola threw two impressive innings against the FCA Braves in the second game of a doubleheader on June 25. He allowed no runs, one hit, waled one, and struck out three.

The Grays will counter with Cam Fowler (Sr. U of Neb Omaha) who is 1-2 on the season with a 5.14 ERA. His win came against the FCA Braves on June 23 when he pitched 5.2 innings, allowed two earned runs on six hits, walked three and struck out eight. His two losses came at the hands of the Bethesda Big Train.
