WOWD-LP, Takoma Park’s, own community station, will feature the Thunderbolts on Opening Day with a half hour special broadcast, called Play Ball! Silver Spring Takoma Thunderbolts Opening Day Special. The show will air live, Wednesday, June 5, from 9-9:30 am, on WOWD-LP, 94.3 FM, and on https://takomaradio.org. It will be hosted by WOWD-LP’s Steve Hoffman.
Thunderbolts pitcher Luke Rettig and Thunderbolts catcher Luke Trainer, and Neal Lavon from the Tbolts Media Team, will join Steve for a preview of the team’s 2019 season in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. Rettig pitches for Lehigh University and pitched 50 innings in his freshman season, striking out 47, while yielding only one home run. Trainer plays for Millersville University and hit .326 for the Marauders with 42 RBIs, six doubles, and four home runs.
Last season, WOWD-LP covered the team in live on-air chats between Steve and Neal. This season, the station will continue coverage of the Thunderbolts as Takoma Park’s local summer wooden bat collegiate baseball team.
