The Yankees and Red Sox may be in London, but the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts will take on the DC Grays in Washington this afternoon at 1 pm for a game in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. The Bolts are coming off a doubleheader split with the Alexandria Aces at Frank Mann Field, dropping the first game in extra innings, 9-8, but coming back in extras again to win the second game, 6-5.
The Bolts are one game ahead of the Grays for second place in the League, so today’s game takes on added importance in the standings.
The Bolts will start their newest pitcher, Zeke Gognola (So, Mo Coll, Germantown). Gongola threw two impressive innings against the FCA Braves in the second game of a doubleheader on June 25. He allowed no runs, one hit, waled one, and struck out three.
The Grays will counter with Cam Fowler (Sr. U of Neb Omaha) who is 1-2 on the season with a 5.14 ERA. His win came against the FCA Braves on June 23 when he pitched 5.2 innings, allowed two earned runs on six hits, walked three and struck out eight. His two losses came at the hands of the Bethesda Big Train.
The T-Bolts Radio Network will air the game at 12:55 pm with Julian Baron and Neal Lavon on the call. Justin Jaquis will be on social media.
