Bolts to Face Braves Before Three-Day Break

The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts face off against the FCA Braves tonight at 7 pm at Blair Stadium. It’s the last game before the Bolts have three days off from competition in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. The Bolts will send southpaw Luke Rettig (So, Lehigh) to the mound. Rettig is 1-2 on the season with an excellent 3.78 ERA, second only to the 2.57 ERA of Zeke Gongola (So, Mont Coll, G’town) among regular pitchers. Rettig has started four games, thrown nineteen innings, allowed eight earned runs on 18 hits, and has walked 12 and struck out 20. His win came against the DC Grays on June 12 when he went seven innings, allowed no runs on three hits, walked one and struck out nine.

His opponent for the Braves will be John Reynolds, Jr (Jr, Randolph-Macon) who has an 0-0 record over two games, with a 3.00 ERA in six innings pitched. He has allowed nine hits, walked one, and struck out five. He pitched five innings against the T-Bolts On June 25 in the second game of a doubleheader at South County Field that went to ten innings before the T-Bolts won, 7-4. Reynolds did not figure in the decision. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits, walked one, and struck out three.

The Bolts have lost five of their last six games, including last night against Bethesda, and are now in third place in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, a game behind the DC Grays. The Braves are last in the League, four games behind the T-Bolts with 16 games left in the season, nine of which will be played at Blair.

The Bolts resume action at Blair, Friday, July 5 against the DC Grays. Game time is 7 pm, and the game will be on the T-Bolts Radio Network at 6:55 pm with Neal Lavon and Nate Kresh on the call.
