The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts have, in effect, already clinched second place over the DC Grays with Friday night’s 9-7 victory at Blair over the team from Washington.
The Bolts’ record stands at 19-16 with three to play while the Grays are 16-19 also with three to play. Even if the Bolts dropped three in a row, and the Grays won three in a row so the teams finished tied at 19-19, the Bolts hold the first tiebreaker—wins in the season series between the two teams.
With Friday’s win over the Grays, the Bolts won the season series, 5-3, and get a first round bye in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League playoffs, and will play one of the winners of the play-in games held between the third through sixth place teams.
It also means the Bolts will have at least one home playoff game at Blair which the Bolts haven’t had since 2017. If there is a third game in a best of three series, it will also be played at Blair.
Congratulations to the 2019 Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts for finishing second in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League and advancing into the Semi-Final Series, scheduled to begin July 25 at Blair with an opponent not yet known.
