The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts make their last regular season vist to Shirley Povich Field tonight at 7 pm to play the Bethesda Big Train. The Bolts are 1-2 at Povich, having won 13-4 on June 7, but lost June 11, 11-0; and June 20, 8-1. Game time on the T-Bolts Radio Network is 6:55 pm with Julian Baron and Neal Lavon on the call. Clark Boinis will handle social media.
Taking the mound tonight for the T-Bolts will be Tanner Jacobson (So, Queens University of Charlotte) with an 0-0 record for 2019, and who will face the Train for the first time. The righthander from Pittsburgh has started three of the four games he has pitched in, and allowed ten runs in 12.2 innings with a 7.10 ERA. He has walked 21, struck out 11, and only yielded eight hits. His most recent outing was against the DC Grays one week ago in Washington where he went two innings and allowed one run on one hit. The Bolts lost 4-1 but Tanner did not figure in the decision.
His opponent will be lefty Dalton Ponce (So, St Marys College of California), the CRCBL leader in wins. He sports a 4-1 record with a 3.96 ERA over 25 innings. Ponce has allowed 11 runs on 23 hits, struck out 33 and walked only two. His most recent outing was a loss to the Gaithersburg Giants in a game which he pitched four innings and gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out three, and walked one.
This is his first time facing the Bolts.
The Bolts are one half game behind the DC Grays in the battle for second place and a bye in the CRCBL playoffs which begin July 24.
The Thunderbolts are on the road Monday when they visit the Alexandria Aces for a 6:30 pm game at Frank Mann Field. Righthander Zeke Gongola ((So, Mont Coll, Germantown) will pitch for the Bolts. Zeke has an 0-1 record with a 2.57 ERA. His loss came against the DC Grays when he allowed two runs on five hits in five innings, struck out five, and walked none. Neal Lavon and Nate Kresh are on the call for the T-Bolts Radio Network starting at 6:25 pm. Clark Boinis will take on social media duties.
