Bolts Hope to Bounce Back after Big Train Loss

The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts journey to Frank Mann Field in Alexandria to take on the Alexandria Aces in a 6:30 tilt. Game time on the T-Bolts Radio Network is 6:25 pm. Neal Lavon and Nate Kresh are on the call.

Zeke Gongola (So, Mont Coll, Germantown) gets the start for the Bolts. He has an 0-1 record allowing two runs in seven innings. He has walked one, struck out seven, and has an ERA of 2.57. His loss came against the DC Grays at the Nats Baseball Academy on June 30 in a game the Bolts dropped, 4-1. In that game, Gongola went five innings, gave up two runs on five hits, struck out four, and walked none.

To date, no starting pitcher has been named for the Aces.

The Thunderbolts are now in third place. one game behind the DC Grays in the battle for second place and a bye in the first round of Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League playoffs.

That battle will become much sharper on Tuesday when the Bolts play a doubleheader against the Grays in DC with the first game beginning at 4:30 pm. Tyler Dyball (So, U of Hawaii) is the scheduled pitcher for the first game; his record stands at 1-1. Dyball’s win came against the DC Grays June 22 at Blair when he pitched the final three innings in an 11-inning Bolt win, 5-4.

Alex Mykut (So, Millersville), will pitch the second game. His record is 1-0 and his win came against the Grays on June 24 in DC when he went five shutout innings in a game the Bolts won, 8-1.

The Bolts are off Wednesday for the CRCBL All-Star Game at Shirley Povich Field. Seven Bolts were named to the All-Star Team: Lucas Donlon (Va Tech); Ian McMillan (U of Houston), DaVonn Griffin (James Madison); Luke Trainer (Millersville); Tony Gallo (Lehigh); Brady Pearre (High Point), and Luke Rettig (Lehigh).

The Bolts resume play on Saturday when they host the Gaithersburg Giants in a doubleheader at Blair. The first game begins at 4:30 pm.
