BROCK HUNTER, HEAD COACH AND PITCHING COACH
Brock is now in his fourth year as Head Coach and Pitching Coach of the Thunderbolts. Brock also coached for the Loudon County Riverdogs in the CRCBL before joining the Thunderbolts in 2019 as Pitching Coach. Last November, he was named Head Varsity Coach of Churchill High School in land, Bethesda, Mary after coaching the Junior Varsity. Previously, as pitching coach, he helped Lake Braddock High School in Burke, Virginia, to a state championship in 2019. He also ran the Waves Baseball program and is Travel Baseball Director for KOA Sports. In college, he pitched for Coastal Carolina where he had a 4-0 record in 27 starts and George Mason University. He spent two summers playing in the Valley League. There, he ranked fourth in the league with 47 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched and was 3-3 in 12 games with 2.35 ERA.
MAX ECKERT, ASST. COACH, DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Max Eckert begins his third season with the Thunderbolts. Max is the founder of Wild Bill Sports (a local travel baseball organization) and consults on player development for several leagues. His collegiate career began at Potomac State, where after battling knee surgery, he transferred to Ann Arundel Community College. He was able to showcase his skills and commit to Stevenson University. At Stevenson, he was selected as 2009 MVP and broke the single season and career home-run record (which was recently broken). Upon graduating with a degree in Marketing and Social Sciences, he pursued his professional baseball career in the Golden Baseball League with the Calgary Vipers. His extensive playing experience, behavioral education background, and ten plus years of full-time coaching, fuels his passion for teaching baseball skills both for on-field performance and as a metaphor for life.
DEAN WANDELL, ASSISTANT COACH
Dean was a left-handed pitcher for the Thunderbolts in the 2022 season. That season, he went 1-1, appearing in seven games and starting two, with ten strikeouts. He also pitched at Frostburg State University. Dean is a product of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda where he was Player of the Year in 2021. He was First Team All-Division at Walter Johnson in 2019. At Frostburg State in 2022, he posted a 3-1 record with a 4.56 ERA. This is his first season coaching in the Cal Ripken Sr Collegiate Baseball League with the Thunderbolts. When he is not with the Thunderbolts, Dean is also a baseball coach at KOA Sports in Rockville, Maryland. His younger brother, Jay, is a pitcher on the 2024 Thunderbolts.
